Course 2 final cake

Last night I had the final lesson for Course 2 of Wilton cake decorating. We learned the basket weave and actually it was easier than it looks! Then during the course we learned how to make all sorts of different flowers made out of royal icing. Royal icing, for example, is the stuff that you can buy at the store that say {H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y} on it and you peel them off individually and put them on the cake, and they are edible. Same thing..

Melissa and her final cake! So she did a great job!

Stephanie's final cake! So Pretty!
My brother-in-law's 19th birthday was Saturday the 22nd and he LOVES BYU. If you ever see a blue sports car driving around with 2 BYU flags on both sides of the windows, That's Him! I'm OK with this cause I'm a BYU fan also. So I asked my teacher if instead of putting flowers on it that i make it into a BYU cake for Kevin's birthday. She said that it would be fine as long as she saw that I had made all my flowers and color flow birds and If i put the basket weave on the cake. So this is how it turned out... I know it's not perfect, but hey, it's the first basket weave I've ever done!

After class I had to go home and add a Y to the cake. So i cut out a template out of paper, laid it on my rolled out fondant then cut it out. Then i put it on my cake and outlined it with the rest of my blue frosting. I started running out as i was outlining it so it kept sputtering, stupid frosting! Oh well, Kevin LOVED it!

GO BYU!
For this cake I wanted to try something different than just white cake. So i made a chocolate devils food cake and then put an Oreo filling in the middle, it was SO delicious! Yum! I will definitely be making this cake again!

Here's my piece of cake, I accidentally took a bite before I took a picture! And i wish now that i would have gotten a picture of Kevin.

Well, I've officially passed Course 2... Now onto Course 3 - Fondant & Gum Paste!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEVIN!

Below is link to a 15-minute video was sent to me by a coworker.

It is a result of the two ATK employees who were killed on the Valley View highway in Logan, Utah 2 years ago by a young texting driver.

I encourage you to watch it and share it with everyone you can.

This is a very powerful message. And no one should have to go through this situation so we should do something to stop it now.

Camping in Yuba Lake -- Again

We had another chance to go down to Yuba Lake again this summer. This time it was with most of our friends, and we didn't have a boat. Also we stayed just outside of the painted rocks campground so we had a little bit more freedom; no quiet time, Duke didn't have to be on a leash, and more privacy!

We had so much fun, Bret & Ryan missed out on all the fun... but Me, Justin, Lindsay, Justin, Steve, Zack & Kiley were able to go. So we packed up on Friday and left around 4:00pm

When we got to camp we got all set up and then made hamburgers, hot dogs & corn on the cob for dinner. YUM! Then we hung out by the fire, made some marshmallows then Me, Linds, Steve and Zack played a grueling game of Ticket to Ride. Poor Linds got all ganged up on, but she still played a good fight!

That night we stayed up until at least 3am just laughing, talking and having fun. So we went to bed, woke up Saturday and headed down to the Lake to swim! Steve and Kiley had to leave early on Saturday to get back home so they didn't get in the water.

The best part of swimming was Duke. He LOVES swimming. We've never actually taken him somewhere where he can just be free and swim, so we never really knew if he liked it. But he jumped right in and swam all afternoon! It was the cutest thing!

All worn out.
In the water we played some catch, just relaxed and had a little talk with the ranger. I guess when you are on the beach the dog has to be on a 6ft leash at all times! Whether in the water or out... Lame! So we put the leash on Duke and he started whining cause he felt like he couldn't swim with it on, it made him nervous. So we broke the rules a little and waited for the ranger to go away, then let him loose!

What a cute cute couple :o)

Then on Sunday, we just hung out mostly in the trailer, played some games, took a nap then packed up to go home. It was fun!

Thanks friends for making it such a fun time!

NEXT DESIRED TRIP: Sea World!! {Wouldn't that be nice?!?}

Broken...

Well I've ventured into course #2 of Wilton cake decorating. And in this course we learn how to make and use Royal Icing & Color Flow. Those are probably terms that you don't understand, but you will once the story goes on.
The first night of class was fine. We continued to use buttercream frosting to make Mums, Rosebuds & Rosettes. Those were fun, but I still need some practice. At the end of class last week we were instructed to make Royal Icing and Color Flow instead of buttercream frosting. So, last night was a little bit interesting.

I got off of work at 4pm and went grocery shopping. Bought my 2lbs bag of powdered sugar and then we had tickets to a bee's game. So we went to the game, had a great time even though they got killed and then headed home at 11pm...

I was ready for bed then but had to make this frosting. So I get all my ingredients out and start mixing the Royal Icing with my little Black & Decker hand mixer.
IT WAS LIKE GLUE.
The frosting was clumping, sticking to my mixer and not blending well at all. The recipe says you have to mix it for 7-10 minutes. About half way through, my mixer makes a weird noise and I notice that the left blade is not spinning.
GREAT.
My Mixer Broke.
So I finish mixing my Royal Icing with one blade. Then I had to move onto the Color Flow...
WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!!
The Color Flow was even worse than the Royal Icing... And I had to mix it for 7 minutes with only one blade on my mixer. In the end my Color Flow is probably wrong... But OH WELL!
So now that FROSTING broke my MIXER I need to go buy a new one :(
I like buttercream A LOT better!

If money grew on trees I would get one of these:

.:It is a 5 quart stand kitchenaid, 3 attachments, stainless steel bowl with handle, 475 Watts:.

Isn't it beautiful?!

I hear you can get them refurbished for $199.00 instead of $499.00

My Birthday is in 87 days 10 hours and 59 minutes :o) {Cough Cough}

Anyway, That was my adventure last night... It wasn't very fun.

Have a good day!

BoOnDoCkS!

We had a little adventure this weekend.
Boondocks Fun Center.
1pm - 12am= SO MUCH FUN!
Enough Said :o)
We rode the go karts about 10-15 times:

Lindsay & I in the 2 seater go kart. I drove this time.
Just chillin' in line.
Bret's excited.
Look at Ryan, he's having so much fun.
GO RYAN, GO!

Then we played miniature golf 2 times:

Keeping Score.
And laser tag 2 times:The terminator.

Dang. I look tan...

We also went on the bumper boats, played lots of arcade games, went on the 3XD roller coaster adventures & the flight simulators. All for under $20 because we have awesome friends! I'm glad we have such a fun group that we can fill 11 hours of a day with!!
