Bridal Shower

So I'm sure all of you are wondering what my last cake was for. My good friend Lindsey Sweat is getting married and so we had a bridal shower for her. I had so much fun making this cake. I still have to say the best part is bringing the cake in and seeing the reactions. I'm so glad I was able to go to the shower! There were SO many old friends their that I have missed and I loved that i was able to catch up with them. I shouldn't wait so long to see old friends!
People asked me if it killed me to cut the cake that i spent about 5 hours on. But no, i don't think it does. It's the satisfaction knowing that I've helped and made people happy. That's the best feeling ever.
So on Wednesday evening I started this cake, but first I found out what Lindsey's colors were: Lime green and bright turquoise blue.

My Messy Kitchen. This is a White cake with Strawberry Cream filling, and white butter cream icing.

Getting ready for the bow!

These are the loops for the bow. I had to let them dry over night.
The border is butter cream, Not fondant like the circles and bow.
All finished! I love the way this cake turned out. I'm so happy for Lindsey and Ryan. They are such a cute couple! Congratulations you two!!
Also, I want to thank Kiley for throwing such a fun shower! You did awesome. But we're going to miss you while you are in Brazil. You will be such a strong missionary and will touch so many lives. We love you Kiley!!

Final Course 1 cake & Nikkie's Bridal Shower

I've officially completed Course 1 of my Wilton cake decorating classes! Last night our instructor had us bring a cake already frosted so we could put decorations on it in class. Last week we started learning how to make roses. I was struggling. But for some reason last night i whipped those flowers right up! It must have been the consistency of my frosting cause it made such a difference. Our instructor told us that if we wanted to write on our cake to do that first. Well i did my flowers first. Then i decided i wanted to write... Bad Idea! I was nervous i was going to bump my flowers so the writing didn't look very well. So then i finished the cake, put the border, leaves and everything on and felt pretty good about it besides my writing. Then, I really don't know why, i did that UGLY purple squiggle... UGH! So horrible, I think i did it out of boredom because everyone else was still working on their flowers. I will never do it again! Haha!

My Flowers. Of course, they aren't perfect but for my first ones, I think they are pretty good. My edges are really ragged but that will get better with practice.
Our friend Nikkie Brown at work is getting married in two weeks. So we decided to throw her a surprise Bridal Shower. Stephanie and I (who is taking the class with me) decided that we would bring the cakes as dessert for our little bridal shower. So today we decorated Nikkie's desk behind the teller line and then got a bunch of food for her. Cache Valley Bank was nice enough to pay for it too :)
This is Tina. She was really excited to be decorating. But i caught her off guard with this picture. I think she looks cute :)

Nikkie loved her decorations!

We also ended up getting Nikkie some gifts off her registry. Congratulations Nikkie & Casey on your upcoming special day!

Parades, Pineview, Kabio & More!

A couple weeks ago Farmington did their annual Farmington Festival Days. So we grabbed some friends and met my family over on State Street to watch the Parade.

My little brother is so cute! He's going to be a junior in High School. What a stud ;)

Last Friday on the 24th of July, not many of us had work. So we decided to go to pineview lake to swim a little. We didn't have a boat but Lindsay & Justin brought their badminton net, and then we were able to cool off when it got hot! We had a lot of fun

Last but not least, Justin's parents got a new horse! Since Abby died they haven't really had a horse to take penny riding with. Dan has a gelding named Chamber but he is only 3 and he's not broke yet. He's bucked 2 people off so we don't dare take him. On Saturday Justin's parents let us take their new horse and Penny to the legacy center to ride. This was our first time taking the horses by ourselves so I'm positives the horses were thinking "Dang armatures..." We probably looked like fools trying to saddle them and get the bit in their mouths but we finally figured it out!
Kabio is their new horse. He is and 8 year old gelding - paint. He is such a well tamed horse! He didn't get panicked at all when we got on him at all and he rode so well next to penny. He reined very well! What a great horse!

Lincoln's 2nd Birthday

I can't believe it has already been 2 years since my nephew Lincoln was born! He turned 2 on July 20th. What a fun boy he is! My sister and her family were able to come up for about a week and while they were here we had a birthday party for Lincoln on the 18th. Of course i wanted to practice making cakes so I offered to make one for Lincoln's birthday. The theme of his birthday was Disney's "Cars". Every time he watches that movie and the cars are racing he says "GO, GO, GO!!" It's so cute. I had a lot of fun making this cake! So here's how it turned out:

My road sign didn't turn out that great... So i made that the back :)
You can't tell but my silly mom wanted to move the cake more to the center of the table. When she was moving it she totally stuck her finger in the front bottom layer of the cake! She started panicking and luckily i hadn't gotten rid of all of my blue frosting, so i was able to patch it up pretty well. At least it wasn't in the top layer!
After we sung happy birthday, he took the cars off the top (you can see them in his left hand) and then wanted to eat the frosting! He loved it :)
Lincoln playing with a toy car that he got for a present.
There was no better joy than seeing my nephew's eyes light up when he saw his cake. He loved blowing the candles out and was so excited when he got to keep the cars that were on the cake. I think in the end the best part is seeing some one's reaction to their cake. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LINCOLN! We all love you so much!

Practice makes perfect!

So as most of you know i signed up for a Cake decorating class at Michaels. I've only been to one class so far and we've only learned small techniques. But the teacher asked us to make a practice cake and just play around with the decorating bags and tips. So on Monday i spent all night baking a cake and preparing the frosting (until 12:45am). The next day I came home and got out my frosting put some color in it and began frosting my cake. I wanted the base to be green and then purple flowers. I haven't learned how to do flowers yet so i just decided to wing it. Here's how it went...

Here's the two layers put together with a strawberry filling

I used my cake icing tip and smoothed it out. Pretty good for my first time. But... I ran out of green frosting. They say it's really hard to re-mix another batch of frosting to get it the exact same color. Plus i didn't have any more white frosting. I had already colored it purple. So i decided to make the top purple.

Not bad... But then there's the seam between the purple and green that i had to do something about......So i filled it with stars! One of the techniques I learned in classSo that worked... Then i wanted to add something more. So i took my remaining purple frosting, made it a darker purple and then I attempted flowers... After a lot of practice on my practice board i got the hang of it.It was hard, but very good practice! The finished product! It's a Heavenly white cake, with strawberry filling and buttercream frosting. It turned out YUMMY!Cutting the cake

Everyone really enjoyed it. I know I'm going to have so much fun in my classes! I definitely have a lot to learn! But for now... this was a good start for me!
