Final Course 1 cake & Nikkie's Bridal Shower
I've officially completed Course 1 of my Wilton cake decorating classes! Last night our instructor had us bring a cake already frosted so we could put decorations on it in class. Last week we started learning how to make roses. I was struggling. But for some reason last night i whipped those flowers right up! It must have been the consistency of my frosting cause it made such a difference. Our instructor told us that if we wanted to write on our cake to do that first. Well i did my flowers first. Then i decided i wanted to write... Bad Idea! I was nervous i was going to bump my flowers so the writing didn't look very well. So then i finished the cake, put the border, leaves and everything on and felt pretty good about it besides my writing. Then, I really don't know why, i did that UGLY purple squiggle... UGH! So horrible, I think i did it out of boredom because everyone else was still working on their flowers. I will never do it again! Haha!

Parades, Pineview, Kabio & More!
A couple weeks ago Farmington did their annual Farmington Festival Days. So we grabbed some friends and met my family over on State Street to watch the Parade.

Lincoln's 2nd Birthday
I can't believe it has already been 2 years since my nephew Lincoln was born! He turned 2 on July 20th. What a fun boy he is! My sister and her family were able to come up for about a week and while they were here we had a birthday party for Lincoln on the 18th. Of course i wanted to practice making cakes so I offered to make one for Lincoln's birthday. The theme of his birthday was Disney's "Cars". Every time he watches that movie and the cars are racing he says "GO, GO, GO!!" It's so cute. I had a lot of fun making this cake! So here's how it turned out:

My road sign didn't turn out that great... So i made that the back :)
You can't tell but my silly mom wanted to move the cake more to the center of the table. When she was moving it she totally stuck her finger in the front bottom layer of the cake! She started panicking and luckily i hadn't gotten rid of all of my blue frosting, so i was able to patch it up pretty well. At least it wasn't in the top layer!
After we sung happy birthday, he took the cars off the top (you can see them in his left hand) and then wanted to eat the frosting! He loved it :)

Practice makes perfect!
So as most of you know i signed up for a Cake decorating class at Michaels. I've only been to one class so far and we've only learned small techniques. But the teacher asked us to make a practice cake and just play around with the decorating bags and tips. So on Monday i spent all night baking a cake and preparing the frosting (until 12:45am). The next day I came home and got out my frosting put some color in it and began frosting my cake. I wanted the base to be green and then purple flowers. I haven't learned how to do flowers yet so i just decided to wing it. Here's how it went...
Here's the two layers put together with a strawberry filling
I used my cake icing tip and smoothed it out. Pretty good for my first time. But... I ran out of green frosting. They say it's really hard to re-mix another batch of frosting to get it the exact same color. Plus i didn't have any more white frosting. I had already colored it purple. So i decided to make the top purple.
Not bad... But then there's the seam between the purple and green that i had to do something about...
...So i filled it with stars! One of the techniques I learned in class
So that worked... Then i wanted to add something more. So i took my remaining purple frosting, made it a darker purple and then I attempted flowers... After a lot of practice on my practice board i got the hang of it.
It was hard, but very good practice!
The finished product! It's a Heavenly white cake, with strawberry filling and buttercream frosting. It turned out YUMMY!
